Welcome to what some people call the "start" of my Alaskan Stories. I hope these adventures can be enjoyed by all who read them. They will cover the some of the funny and not so funny things that have happened to us (my husband and I) and our pets who always seem to be in the middle of things.
State Bird: Alaska Willow Ptarmigan, so named in 1955.
I have seen these birds in the winter, wonderful things, they even have feathers on their legs and feet, all snow white.
State Insect: Four Spotted Skimmer, so named in 1995. They do not bite or sting. They eat mosquitos and other annoying insects. Dragonflies spend their early stages in water, first as eggs, then as larvae (naiads). Dragonflies are truly marvels of the natural world. They've been on this earth for about 300 million years.
State Flower: The Territorial Legislature approved the forget-me-not as the official floral emblem of the Alaska Territory and the Governor signed the legislation into law on April 28, 1917.
